Underwater World of the Dominican Republic
Sosua is located on the Atlantic coast of the Dominican Republic - and for diving, this makes a fundamental difference. The Atlantic brings nutrient-rich currents that feed dense coral structures, large fish, and hundreds of species of marine life. Visibility here reaches 25 meters, water temperature stays 26-29Β°C year-round - ideal conditions for dives of any level.
We partner with Aqua-center - a professional dive center in Sosua with PADI-certified instructors who know every reef and every crevice in these waters. Complete beginner with zero experience or seasoned diver with a full logbook - we will match the dive to you.
Who Youβll Meet Underwater
This is not an aquarium and there are no guarantees - but hereβs who is regularly seen here.
Sea Turtle
![]()
Green turtles and hawksbills constantly feed on the reefs around Sosua. They are almost not afraid of divers - stay calm and a turtle may glide right past you within a meter, completely ignoring you. An encounter at 8-15 meters, when she slowly drifts along the corals, is one of those moments that bring people back to the water again and again.
Moray Eel

Morays live permanently in the reef crevices - finding them on a dive is not difficult if you know where to look. They poke their heads out of hiding, slowly opening and closing their mouths - this is how they breathe, not attack. Up close they are impressive: every species has its own unique skin pattern, and their eyes are very attentive. At night they come out to hunt - a night dive gives you a completely different perspective on the same creatures.
First Time Underwater
Most people who say βI canβt diveβ simply never had a proper introduction. Diving is not about physical fitness. Itβs about slow, calm breathing and trusting your gear. One really good first experience changes everything.
Beginner Diver β 1 Tank
One guided dive with an instructor to a depth of 5-12 meters. No certification required. First - briefing in the pool or on shallow water, basic hand signals - then the real reef. Most first-timers are surprised how quickly they relax once they start breathing underwater.
Beginner Diver β 2 Tanks
Two dives in one day. The second one is almost always much better - nerves disappear, buoyancy becomes natural, you start noticing things you missed the first time. If you have a full day and genuine curiosity - this is the right choice.

β οΈ Boat spaces are limited. Small groups are part of the quality, but it also means dates get booked quickly. Reserve early.

Already certified? Hereβs what Sosua offers
Dive sites around Sosua range from shallow coral gardens at 8 meters to wall dives beyond 30 meters. Sea turtles, morays, eagle rays, nurse sharks, barracudas and thick schools of tropical fish among the bayβs reef structures.
Dives for Certified Divers
Guided dives (Open Water and above) on the best active sites around Sosua. Two-tank options available. Aqua-center guides select sites according to current conditions, visibility and your preferences - macro on the reef or open-water encounters.
Wreck Dive: La Zingara
Wreck Diving β La Zingara
La Zingara is an intentionally sunk vessel on a sandy bottom near Sosua, now completely colonized by corals and marine life. Depth around 30 meters - the upper limit of recreational diving, a serious dive for experienced divers.
Wreck diving has its own rules. Light behaves differently inside the hull. Fish gather in unexpected concentrations around the structure. La Zingara has become home to large groupers, barracudas and clouds of glassy sweepers that part as you swim through them.
Recommended for divers with Advanced Open Water certification or higher.

Night Dive: A Different Ocean
Night Diving β 1 Tank
The same reef after dark is a completely different place. Octopuses, lobsters, hunting morays come out of their hiding spots. Coral polyps extend. Sometimes bioluminescence flashes around your fins.
You dive with a torch - but the real moment comes when you switch it off for thirty seconds and hang in total darkness. Thatβs the story people tell for years.
For certified divers. Pre-dive briefing included.
